GREEN BAY PACKERS

The Green Bay Packers have one of the largest fanbases in the world, but also within Canada. The team was formed in 1919 thanks to funding from a local company called Indian Packing, leading to the team’s unique name. Currently, the Packers are the only NFL team that is publicly owned with over 8,000 shareholders.

About The team

Pro Football Hall of Famer Earl ‘Curly’ Lambeau, who was one of the company’s employees at the time and went on to play for the team and then coach them to six NFL titles. The team’s current stadium, Lambeau Field, is named after him.

Legendary head coach Vince Lombardi led the Packers to victories in Super Bowl I and II and the NFL’s championship trophy is now named after him.

The Packers, whose fans are affectionately called Cheeseheads, have won four Super Bowl titles as well as nine NFC championships. Popular quarterback Aaron Rodgers led the Packers to a title in 2010, earning him the title of Super Bowl MVP.

GOING TO
GREEN BAY ?

The city of Green Bay is located on the shores of Lake Michigan, two hours north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Nicknamed Titletown, USA due to the early success of the Packers, the city is home to just over 100,000 people, making it the smallest market in the NFL by a wide margin.

While there are no other major professional sports teams in Green Bay, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay provides fans with a full slate of Division I athletics programs.

When it comes to dining, Taverne in the Sky features dry-rubbed wings and herb rotisserie chicken and boasts a spectacular view of Lambeau Field. Besides the Packers, Green Bay is known for its cheeses so a visit to Kroll’s is a must to experience the best cheese curds in the city.

The historic Meyer Theatre also offers an option for enjoying musicals, concerts, family theatre and touring shows throughout the year.
